Southern Pines Approves Firing Range For School

Posted Updated

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — The Southern Pines Town Council took up a controversial proposal at its Tuesday meeting.

Calvary Christian School wants a BB gun firing range on its campus. The school already offers the class off-campus, and school leaders said having it on-campus would save time and money.

Council members unanimously voted to change an ordinance that prohibits anyone from shooting a weapon inside the town's limits.

It is now up to the school to apply for the firing range. After that, the police chief must approve the location and inspect it on an ongoing basis.
