Wayward Deer Calls On Wireless Store

Posted Updated

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A deer apparently thought a wireless store was part of his network.

The animal smashed through the front window of Have A Nice Day Wireless in a shopping center on Benvenue Road early Wednesday. Inside, the deer knocked over displays and scattered files off desks, officials said.

"(It's) the weirdest thing I've ever had to deal with in my whole life," office manager Mesa Outlaw said. "Just the way everything looked, it looked like he was hurt, scared and caught."

Police officers responding to a burglar alarm at the store followed the damage and a trail of blood and found the deer trapped inside a bathroom at the back of the store, police said.

The animal had ripped apart toilet paper and paper towels and knocked down a light fixture before officers opened a back door to let it out.

"Luckily, he didn't break the mirror, or that would have been seven years of back luck for him," Outlaw said.

The staff of the wireless store had the front window replaced on Wednesday and spent most of the day cleaning up the mess and getting back to business.
