CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina Hospitals Platelet and Plasma Donor Program is currently experiencing a critical platelet shortage. New and returning donors are needed to schedule donation appointments.

The platelet donation process takes about two hours to complete and is performed by highly trained medical staff. Donors may pass the time by watching television or a movie, and are provided with drinks and snacks.
