e-mail print friendly

"Super-Sizing Our Kids: North Carolina's Epidemic of Overweight Children" airs Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. on WRAL-TV, replacing

Headline Saturday.

"Super-Sizing Our Kids" examines the dramatic increase in obesity among North Carolina children in recent years.

Health professionals explore every angle from exercise to fast food to social stigmas, and offer solutions. Overweight children tell their personal stories of working hard to improve their health, along with their parents, by making healthy lifestyle changes. Several community programs that offer support for overweight and obese kids are highlighted in the program.

WRAL News Anchor and For The Children reporter Pam Saulsby hosts this half-hour special.

On Sept. 17, 2003, the

N.C. Prevention Partners 2003 Award for Excellence in Media was given to the program's producer, Phyllis Parish,

senior producer for WRAL. And, just this week, the program received the

Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Radio and Television,

a national award in the category of 30-minute documentary.
