Fort Bragg Paratrooper Dies During Training

Fort Bragg Sign

Authorities at Fort Bragg are trying to determine why a paratrooper collapsed and died during training last week.

Base officials said Sunday that Sgt. 1st Class Steven Cutno was in the middle of physical training with his unit when he collapsed Friday morning. He was pronounced dead at the base hospital.

The 38-year-old New Orleans native was a member of the Headquarters Company of the 82nd Airborne Division. His unit commander, Maj. Chris Hockenberry, said Cutno served with the division for 15 years.

Cutno was a Persian Gulf War veteran, and his decorations included the Bronze Star. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
