Authorities say 37-year-old Dirk Hill assaulted his mother, 64-year-old Joan Jernigan, with a metal cane at her home at 124 St. John's St. in Knightdale around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and took her car.
When Hill returned to his mother's house Tuesday morning to take his own car, Knightdale police came out to the home to arrest him. When Knightdale Public Safety Officer Matthew Boryla approached Hill, Hill attempted to hit Boryla with his car.
Hill led authorities on a chase through parts of Wake County. The chase ended near Raleigh Boulevard and Brentwood Road when Hill hit a pick-up truck.
Hill was taken into custody. He is charged with four felony counts: assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury: assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury; larceny ofmotor vehicle and speeding to elude arrest. He is currently in the Wake County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.
Officials said Broyla, a seven-year veteran of the department, will be OK. Jernigan is listed in good condition at WakeMed.
The Raleigh Police Department, Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol assisted the Knightdale Police Department with the chase.
The Knightdale Police Department are handling the case.
