Inmate Dies Of Natural Causes On Death Row

RALEIGH, N.C. — Death row inmate General Sam Miller, 54, died Thursday at Wake Medical Center of natural causes.

Miller was first sentenced to death in Robeson County Superior Court on July 18, 1986 for the shooting death of Earl Allen during the robbery of City Jewelers in St. Pauls on Oct. 5, 1985.

In 1988, the North Carolina Supreme Court ordered a new trial. Miller was convicted in a second trial and sentenced to death on Jan. 29, 1993.
