Durham Police Investigate Four Weekend Murders

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating four fatal shootings that occurredduring the weekend.

Investigators say several bullets were fired at Carlos Claytonfrom a small red car at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 500block of Canal Street. Clayton was shot in thehead and died at a hospital.

A second man, 20-year-old Robert Lee, wastreated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.Police are investigating the possibility that the shooting may have beengang-related. No charges have been filed at this time.

The second homicide occurred several blocks away less than ninehours later. The victim is identified as 30-year-old ArturoLorenzo Peaks, who ran to a vehicle shortly after midnight and told the driver hehad been shot.

Peaks, who had been shot multiple times in the torso, died at Duke University Hospital and investigators believe the shooting occurred in the 700 block of Eva Street. No charges have been filed andinvestigators are trying to determine if the shooting was gang-related.

A third man was found dead inside his home after a shooting wasreported early Sunday morning. Police say James Christopher Clydewas killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. Investigatorsarrested 22-year-old Thomas Wayne Pope and charged him with murder.

At 9:45 p.m. Sunday, a Durham resident died and another wasseriously injured during an apparent armed robbery at a conveniencestore.

When officers were called to Morehead Mini Mart, they found 35-year-old Monder Sudqi Mohammad shot to death. Mohammad's brother, Maan Sudqi Mohammad, who is also an employee, was taken to a local hospital for treatment ofa gunshot wound. No charges have been filed at this time.
