ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Greensboro man is jailed in Halifax County, accused of kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl he met on the Internet.
Halifax County Sheriff Jeff Frazier says James Calloway communicated with the teen in an Internet chat room, rove to Roanoke Rapids and lured her into his vehicle.
The girl's parents reported her missing Friday afternoon.
Deputies tracked down Calloway's vehicle not far from the teen's home Saturday night and arrested him.
Calloway, who was convicted in 1991 for contributing to the delinquency of minor, is charged with kidnapping and statutory rape. He's being held in the Halifax County jail under a $75,000 secured bond.
