Car, Durham School Bus Involved In Weather-Related Wrecks

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham school bus was involved in a minor wreck Wednesday morning less than a minute after a vehicle carrying a family of five slid off the road in the same location.

According to the state Highway Patrol, the 1996 Mitusbishi Eclipse slid on a patch of ice and landed in a ditch near Gibson and Mineral Springs roads around 9 a.m.

Seconds later, a Durham school bus carrying six students headed to Southern High School hit the same patch of ice, slid off the road and landed in the ditch, striking the car.

No one in the car or the bus were injured and no charges are expected.

Durham County Schools operated on a two-hour delay Wednesday as a precaution due to the threat of icy roads.
