RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State University quarterback Philip Rivers was named the athlete of the year at the Evening of Champions event.
Former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill head coach Dean Smith received a lifetime achievement award.

- Carolina Hurricanes selects Peter Laviolette as coach
- Durham Bulls win AAA Championship and Carolina Mudcats win AA Championship
- CIAA Champions
- CASL National Champions
