Weekes Postpones Hand Surgery Until After Season

RALEIGH, N.C. — Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Kevin Weekes postponed surgery on his injured right hand until after the season on Thursday.
Weekes was scheduled undergo the season-ending surgery on Friday, but decided to wait after talking with team doctors, said team president and GM Jim Rutherford.
Weekes allowed six goals in his last start against Ottawa on Tuesday. Before that, Weekes had three shutouts in four starts. He is 14-21-8 with a 2.45 goals-against average.
The Hurricanes recalled Arturs Irbe on Wednesday to replace Weekes in the lineup. Irbe will remain with Carolina because backup Patrick DesRochers, broke his right elbow during practice Tuesday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
