RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh police officer is going on administrative duty after he shot and wounded a suspect at a home.
Raleigh police say Officer W.E. Nordstrom shot Daniel Garcia in the abdomen just before midnight Saturday in a home on Summit Avenue, south of downtown. As of 12:45 p.m. Monday, Garcia is listed in fair condition at Wake Medical Center.
According to a police news release, Nordstrom and another officer arrived at a home after receiving a 911 call from a woman. Dispatchers told officers the woman feared her husband was going to kill her.
Police say Nordstrom pushed open the door and confronted Garcia. Police say Garcia refused to raise his hands when asked to do so and then pointed the gun at the officers. Police say that is when Nordstrom fired his gun.
The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation, which is routine following police shootings.
