FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Fort Bragg paratrooper died on post Saturday during a jump training exercise.
A Fort Bragg spokesman said the name of the soldier and his unit are being withheld until his family is notified.
Major Gary Tallman said the accident happened about 9:30 a.m. at a drop zone in Hoke County about 10 miles west of the main base. The soldier was later pronounced dead at Womack Army Medical Center.
According to Tallman, the soldier was participating in a scheduled training jump from a Chinook helicopter.
The Army has started an investigation of the death.
Tallman said investigators will interview witnesses and review training and procedures for the jump.
