High Winds Cause Power Outages

e-mail print friendly

High winds brought down limbs, knocking out power to thousands of people in Wake County Monday night.

Progress Energy said service was quickly restored to about 6,500 customers, mostly in Cary and Garner.

Raleigh police directed traffic at several intersections around the city.

Duke Power said around 800 customers in Durham and Chapel Hill lost service.

The outages come about a month after an ice storm knocked out power to more than a million people across the state. High winds caused similar outages on Christmas Day.
