SANFORD, N.C. — The Lee County Sheriff's Office has called in the State Bureau of Investigation to help investigate the shooting death of a woman.
Officials said Jamie Lockamy Smith, of 37 Blackstone Road, was shot around 12:55 a.m. Wednesday as she smoked a cigarette on her porch.
Sheriff's officials said Smith suffered a gunshot would to the head.
Officials said Smith's husband told deputies he heard gunshots, went outside and found his wife dead.
The victim's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
