Johnston County Sheriff Named In Million-Dollar Lawsuit

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A man who claims that "frivolous" domestic-violence charges caused him to lose a job is suing his estranged wife - a sheriff's deputy - and Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell.
The million-dollar lawsuit was filed in Johnston County Superior Court by James S. Gregory.
Gregory said actions by the sheriff caused him to lose a job as director of sales training at Terminix Pst Control.
Bizzell, the department and Deputy Christine Gregory were named in the lawsuit.
James Gregory said he was repeatedly arrested in October 2001 on frivolous charges of violating a domestic violence protective order and trespassing.
Christine Gregory was granted a domestic violence protective order in January against James Gregory. She filed for divorce in October.
Bizzell said his office behaved in a professional and appropriate manner.
