Southern High School Student Arrested On Rape Charges

DURHAM, N.C. — An 18-year-old high school student accused of sexually assaulting two female students at a Durham school last month has been released on bond.
Kasseim Butler Ali turned himself into authorities Monday night.
He was charged with second-degree rape, attempted rape and two counts of second-degree kidnapping in connection with two incidents at Southern High School last month.
According to warrants dated Nov. 27, Ali allegedly restrained a 14-year-old student against her will on Nov. 5 and raped her. The warrants also state Ali allegedly restrained a 15-year-old student on Nov. 21 and tried to rape her.
After his bond was reduced from $50,000 to $25,000 at his lawyer's request, Ali was released from the Durham County Jail Tuesday afternoon.
