RALEIGH, N.C. — After five hours of deliberating, a Wake County jury on Friday found Danny Lamont Thomas not guilty of robbery, first-degree burglary and first-degree murder in the 2000 slaying of St. Augustine's College student DuMond J. Wright.
Thomas, 30, had been arrested in Texas last January and charged with two other people in the murder of Wright in Wright's Raleigh apartment.
Also charged were 31-year-old Dawn Monique Carpenter of Raleigh and 28-year-old Joseph E. Coppage of Greenville.
Carpenter testified against both Coppage and Thomas. Coppedge was found guilty of first-degree murder last August and sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors were unable to link any physical evidence in the killing to Thomas during his week-long trial.
