Federal Judge Denies Revels' Request To Extend Restraining Order

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A federal judge has denied a request by the attorney for Rebekah Revels to extend a temporary restraining order that's allowed her to compete in the Miss America Pageant.
Revels is one of two Miss North Carolinas in Atlantic City, New Jersey, participating in preliminary activities. The other is Misty Clymer, who was the first runner-up and who succeeded Revels when she resigned.
Revels claims she was forced to resign in July when a former boyfriend told pageant officials he had two topless photos of her. Clymer assumed the title.
Despite this afternoon's ruling, U.S. District Judge James Fox says he'll continue hearing evidence tomorrow, followed by closing arguments, before making a final decision.
Fox says he wants to issue a final decision before leaving for vacation, adding that the legal issues involved are complex.
