Fayetteville's Anthrax Street to Get New Name
Posted October 25, 2001
FAYETTEVILLE — Anthrax Street in Fayetteville soon will have a new name -- Justice, Remembrance, Allegiance, Memorial or American.
Karen Williams' family is one of seven that lives on Anthrax Street. She delivered a petition Wednesday to Cumberland County planners, signed by five of her neighbors who want to shed their addresses from any association to the killer disease that is being spread through the mail.
County commissioners are expected to approve the change, but first residents must pick a new name not being used anywhere else in the county.
One resident objects to the change, saying it will be a hassle to change his address.
