Laurinburg Rest Home Resident Charged With Arson

Posted Updated

LAURINBURG, N.C. — An elderly woman accused of setting her rest home on fire has been charged with arson.

Prosectors say Louanna Overton intentionally started the fire at Aberdeene Meadows on Wednesday.

There is some question about whether Overton is mentally ill and whether she understood what she was doing.

A judge has ordered a competency hearing to determine Overton's mental status.

The fire damaged part of the rest home.
