Posted August 6, 2001

— A man shot his wife several times and then turned the gun on himself during an argument in the parking lot of the Lenoir County Courthouse on Monday.

Several people watched as the couple argued over a domestic court case sometime after 1 p.m. No witnesses were injured, said Kinston police officer Trace Weddle.

The man pulled out a semi-automatic weapon and shot his wife several times. Medics airlifted her to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where she is in critical condition. The husband was dead at the scene.

Police would not immediately release their names.
