SBI Investigates Allegations of Sexual Misconduct at Women's Prison

RALEIGH — The
State Bureau of Investigation
is looking into allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct between staff and prisoners at the
North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women
Department of Correction
spokeswoman Pam Walker says the allegations first surfaced six weeks ago. The department conducted an internal investigation and asked the SBI for assistance.
SBI. agents arrived at the prison Thursday to conduct interviews. Assistant Prison Superintendent Michael Ledford says it is the first such investigation in recent memory at the prison.
Walker says the allegations this time involve more than one inmate and more than one staff member.
