DURHAM — A state trooper was assaulted by a motorist Tuesday morning after stoppinghim for a minor traffic violation.
The incident happened at a BP gas station on Hillsborough Street inDurham. Durham police and the Sheriff's Office setup a perimeter and took three people intocustody.
"After the trooper stopped the vehicle, some type of fracas occurredand the trooper was assaulted," says statetrooper R.L. Hayes.
The trooper was taken to the emergency room at Duke MedicalCenter. They say he was conscious and alert. Authorities would notsay how the trooper was assaulted or if a weapon was involved.
