ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A truck driver involved in a collision with a school bus in Robeson County that killed a young girl was taken into custody Thursday morning.
State troopers met with the Robeson County district attorney Wednesday and obtained a warrant for misdemeanor death by vehicle for Gary Kendall Garnett.
Authorities say he was driving a truck for Mountaire Farms when he crashed into the back of a school bus in January, killing Sheila Hernandez. Hernandez's mother was seriously hurt, but she has since been released from the hospital.
Mountaire Farms later fired Garnett, who has a record of traffic violations.
Garnett was being taken to the magistrate's office in Robeson County for processing.
