Investigators Capture Sampson Jail Escapee

Posted Updated

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — The man known as "kilo man" is back behind bars.

Renee Zamora escaped from the Sampson County Jail almost two years ago. At the time, investigators considered him the biggest cocaine dealer in county history.

On Tuesday, deputies got a tip that Zamora was still in the county, hiding out in the town of Turkey. They found him and rearrested him.

Officials said 195 inmates are on the run from the North Carolina prison system. The oldest case dates back to 1947. Richard Scott escaped about two months after he got to prison. He was serving time for bigamy. He would be 80 years old today.
