Pentagon Orders Combat Aircraft to Persian Gulf Area

WASHINGTON, DC — There's word of orders from the Pentagon forcombat aircraft to move to bases in the Persian Gulf.

The report comes from a senior defense official. It's the firstconcrete sign of preparations to retaliate for last week'sterrorist attacks.

Officials at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Pope Air Forcesay they haven't received any orders to move.

The official says the combat aircraft will be preceded by teamsof Air Force air controllers who will coordinate the refueling ofthe fighters and bombers as they deploy from the United States tothe Gulf region.
