RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh City Council voted 7-1 Monday night to award the construction of a
new downtown convention center
to Skanska, Barnhill Contracting Co..
The company plans to hire a large number of employees to build the convention center.
City leaders said their decision came down to Skanska's experience and reputation for building convention centers on time and on budget.
