Henderson Police Focus On Car In 'Troublesome' Homicide Case

The focus of the murder investigation centers around the victim's stolen car.

The crime scene tape is gone from around the house where Mary Brummitt's body was found Saturday morning, but the investigation is not complete into the death of the retired bookkeeper who lived alone.

"This case is particularly troublesome," Henderson police chief Glen Allen said. "Anytime you have an innocent person whose life is taken, it is very troubling."

Investigators from the Henderson Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation have searched the house. They will not say if they found anything to help the case.

"We're not going to release any information related to the crime scene and the manner or nature of the crime itself," Allen said, "other than say we are investigating a homicide."

The key evidence may not be in the house, but in Brummitt's car, which was found in Oxford. The SBI crime lab in Raleigh had the car Monday night.

Henderson police received Brummitt's autopsy Monday. They know how she died, but repeated that they are not releasing the information that could help catch a killer.
