Fike's Hunt Leads In 3-A Men's Championship

BUIES CREEK,N.C. — Wilson Fike's Richie Hunt fired a two-under70 on the first day of the men's Class 3-A state high schoolchampionship.

Hunt led the field by three strokes. Southeast Guilford's ScottBlackwell and Josh Sandman, and Burlington Williams' JerryRichardson all fired 71s on the 6,129-yard layout at KeithHills Country Club in Buies Creek.

Three Hickory golfers fired 72s to put the Red Tornadoes at thetop of the team standings with a 289. Hickory is eight shots aheadof Southeast Guilford, while defending champion Wilson Hunt isthird at 299.

Hickory finished second to Hunt last season.

The final round of the North Carolina High School AthleticAssociation championship is scheduled for Tuesday.
