GREENSBORO, N.C. — The commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference said Friday that he has accepted an apology by Maryland coach Gary Williams for comments made following the Maryland-Wake Forest game.
John Swofford said the ACC has suspended referee Doug Shows for one game for his "mishandling of a game management situation" during the contest at Wake Forest on Wednesday.
Shows called two technical fouls against Maryland in the Terrapins' loss.
After the game, Williams told reporters a referee told him in a threatening manner that he would see the team next week. Williams then criticized the league's past responses to complaints.
In a statement released by the ACC Friday, Williams apologized for his remarks. Swofford said the league has accepted William's apology.
Shows will be suspended from his next conference game assignment.
