DURHAM, N.C. — The state is blaming two officers for the latest escape at the Durham Youth Home.
The 15-year-old boy took off yesterday afternoon. He was being transferred from the Durham County courthouse to the detention center. State administrators say the two officers who were transporting him failed to make sure his leg irons were secure. Somehow, the boy slipped out of the shackles.
The two state workers were fired. Officers do not consider the teen to be dangerous.
