N.C. Community Colleges Help Displaced Airline Workers

CHARLOTTE, NC — Many of the state's community colleges aremoving quickly to organize programs for thousands of airlineworkers who lost their jobs after the September eleventh attacks.

Central Piedmont Community College held a career fair last weekfor laid-off U-S Airways. Many were there to sign up forunemployment benefits, check out courses and explore new careers.

Wake Tech Community College held a similar event last month inRaleigh.

At that seminar, displaced Midway Airlines workers got tips onimproving resumes, interviewing techniques and professionalnetworking.

U-S Airways has laid off about 17-hundred workers in Charlotte.

Midway has let 24-hundred workers go since seeking bankruptcyprotection in August, then ceasing operations after the Septembereleventh attacks.
