DURHAM, N.C. — An 82-year-old man was killed Monday when he was struck by a street sweeper, police said.
Marvin Miller Martin, of Higbee Street, was struck as he walked behind a street sweeper backing up on Higbee Street near North Roxboro Road shortly after 11:30 a.m., police said. He died later at Duke University Hospital.
The street sweeper was driven by Penny Moore, 51, who wasn't injured. Moore has been employed by Durham since 1997 and is assigned to the Solid Waste Department.
No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation, police said.
