Man Who Helped Create I-440 Beltline Dead At 88

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh commuters have him to thank for quicker trips, but the man behind the Interstate 440 Beltline died earlier this week.

Clifton Benson helped get funding together to pay for construction.

The northern part of the loop is named for Benson as well as part of Highway 56 in Franklin County.

Benson was 88 years old.
