A resident showed up Thursday afternoon at a fire station with a letter he received from Sen. Bill Frist's office. The letter reportedly had a strange stain on it. Ricin was recently found in Frist's mailroom in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.
Thursday afternoon, Hazmat crews were called to investigate a Dumpster at a Citgo station located at 2801 Ramsey St. and Fire Station No. 5 on Village Drive. Gas station owner Tony Sharafi saw liquid leaking from a trash can behind his store.
Earlier in the day, Hazmat crews were first called to the downtown Fayetteville Post Office Thursday morning. Around 9 a.m., the 911 Communications Center reported receiving a call about a white powdery substance found on a piece of machinery used to sort mail in the facility. The post office was never evacuated.
The state's Public Health Preparedness and Response Team and the North Carolina Hazardous Regional Response Team are assisting in the investigation.
