RALEIGH, N.C. — Three people were in the hospital Sunday after a high-speed crash in north Raleigh Saturday night.

A teen driving 90 mph in a 45-mph zone lost control of his car, police said. The car crossed the center line and collided with another car on Lead Mine Road at Bridgeport Drive, police said.

Drivers Patrick Callahan and Karin Idhammar, 21, were taken to WakeMed with broken bones, and Nicholas Hensley, 17, a passenger in Callahan's cars, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Callahan, 16, of 11313 Windwitty Court in Raleigh, was cited for speeding and careless and reckless driving in connection with the wreck, police said. The accident remains under investigation.

Crews shut part of Lead Mine Road down for about three hours to clear the wreckage.
