Ex-Durham Officer Arrested After Bar Fight

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A former Durham police officer who resigned from the department Wednesday has been charged in connection with a bar fight.

Shawn Patrick Stone, 40, of 4225 Kerley Road in Durham, punched another man in the face in a bar on Weaver Dairy Road in Chapel Hill early Thursday, police said. He then left the scene on his motorcycle and eluded authorities, police said.

Stone was arrested Thursday night on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Chapel Hill and was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest and misdemeanor simple assault. He has been released on bond.

Stone had worked as a police officer in Durham since 1999. There has been no reason given for his resignation.

Last year, he was charged with beating up his girlfriend. That charge was later dismissed for lack of evidence.
