SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Police are investigating a large jewelry heist in Johnston County.
A burglar stole nearly $300,000 in diamond jewelry from Selma Jewelry in Smithfield on Tuesday. The thief carefully removed a front window and climbed inside, police said.
A witness reported seeing a man in dark clothing near the store at the time of the robbery, but no one has been arrested.
A robbery at the same store in March sparked a high-speed chase across three counties.
