Jury Selection Under Way In Andre Edwards Trial

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Jury selection is under way in the trial of a man accused of killing a woman during a carjacking.

Prosecutors say Andre Edwards kidnapped Ginger Hayes and her 11-month-old son outside a drug store in Pitt County.

Edwards is accused of killing Hayes in Nash County and leaving her baby to die in a field.

The child, now 4 years old, was found alive with a severe sunburn.

Jury selection was expected to last two weeks. The entire trial could run as long as eight to 10 weeks, court officials said.

If convicted, Edwards could get the death penalty.
