FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A small funeral was held Thursday for the infant known as Baby Christopher who was found dead at a Cumberland Country recycling plant on Christmas Eve.
The funeral for "baby Christopher" was held at First Presbyterian Church on Bow Street in Fayetteville.
Investigators put together a funeral with help from local churches and businesses. One detective even donated a suit for Baby Christopher to wear.
"It's just tough. It's tough as adults to find children who die this way," Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler said. "They just get very close and I mean it's not something you can investigate and forget."
Workers found the newborn in a recycling bin on Dec. 24. The baby's mother still has not been identified.
Many of the people who attended the service were in law enforcement. They said even though they have not solved the case, they needed some form of emotional closure.
