GARNER, N.C. — Police are looking for clues in the suspected homicide of a Garner teen. Meanwhile, his family and friends are mourning his death.

Funeral services were held Friday at the McLaurin Funeral Home for Joshua Davis. Visitation services were held Thursday night.

Police said Davis was headed to his dad's house on foot with another cousin around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The cousin ran back for something and returned to find Davis laying by the side of the road.

"We believe at this time that it was one distinctive blow with an object, some type of instrument," said Jon Blum, of the Garner Police Department. "Whether that was caused by someone he knew or didn't know or whether it was some freak accident, we are not sure."

Three Garner police investigators and one special agent from the State Bureau of Investigation are working on the case. Investigators have conducted interviews with family members, friends and known associates since late Tuesday night and more interviews are scheduled for the days ahead.

Police officials said they are holding on to hope that the case will be solved soon.

"They deserve some answers as to what happened," Blum said.

Police said a witness saw Davis on his cell phone minutes before he was killed. However, they do not believe he was on his phone at the time he was killed because his phone was in his pocket when emergency crews arrived.
