Mental Patient Leads Authorities On 3-County Chase

print friendly

A wild police chase Tuesday involved a mental health patient.

According to sheriff's investigators, 20-year-old Henry Esealuka stole a shuttle bus from Johnston Memorial Hospital and led authorities on a three-county chase.

The chase started at the hospital in Smithfield, then crossed briefly into Wayne County, then continued into Sampson County.

The chase ended when Esealuka crashed into a ditch north of Clinton.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Esealuka was in the Johnston County jail Tuesday night under $75,000 bond. He was charged with felony larceny by the Smithfield police, though he could be charged by all three counties.
