Wilson Police Discover Storage Facility Filled With Stolen Property

e-mail print friendly

Wilson police, acting on a tip from police in Florida, recovered thousands of dollars' worth of stolen property Tuesday in a large storage facility on Gregory Lane.

Numerous items had been stolen from various storage facilities in eastern North Carolina. The property was linked to break-ins in Wayne, Lenior, Carteret and Onslow counties.

Police acted on information received from the Wildwood Police Department in Sumter County, Fla., where Patrick Griffin of Wilson was arrested and charged with multiple robberies that occurred there.

According to Wildwood police, Griffin's method of operation was to rent storage units, usually in a name of an acquaintance, and store stolen property from break-ins of nearby storage units.

Several items of property were returned to owners in Wayne County.

Neighboring law enforcement agencies are in the process of identifying property belonging to victims in cases that are active.

Wilson police said they are continuing their investigation and will pursue charges against Griffin.
