COATS, N.C. — A local police department hopes more money will help attract more officers.
The town of Coats had four officers, but two of them left recently to take higher-paying jobs.
Town board members have now adopted a new pay scale that raises the starting salary to just shy of $25,000 -- an increase of nearly $2,200.
