CARY, N.C. — A standoff at a Cary hotel ended peacefully with the man at the center of it all turning himself in to police.
Cary police said a man with a gun, later identified as 48-year-old Joseph Morrow Stewart, holed himself up in a room at the Red Roof Inn on Walnut Street for more than 3 hours Sunday night before surrendering to police just before 11 p.m.
Stewart did not threaten other hotel guests, but officers evacuated portions of the building just after 8 p.m. as a precaution.
No charges had been filed against Stewart as of Monday afternoon.
