JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Johnston County authorities say they have two suspects in a Friday afternoon robbery, one of whom had been involved in a standoff at his mother's house.
Authorities said Steve Smith was preparing to leave for lunch at Steve Smith Auto and Trailer Sales in Pine Level when he noticed a suspicious vehicle circling the business when two black males jumped out of their car with guns, tied him up and robbed him.
Investigators said Smith was able to get to a phone and call for help. Sheriff officials found the suspects' car and a brief chase ensued. When the chase ended, one of the suspects and two women were taken into custody.
Investigators said the second male suspect was able to escape and went to his mother's house on U.S. Highway 70-A east in Pine Level. After a 30-minute standoff, authorities were able to take the suspect into custody.
No one was injured in the ordeal, including Smith.
"I'm used to living on edge, but that is a little bit too far on edge," he said.
Authorities have arrested 20-year-old Jamal Davidson and 20-year-old Tony Crisp for the robbery. Police say the women taken into custody have not been charged with a crime.
