print friendly

Authorities have made an arrest in Thursday's shooting of a Granville County deputy.

Mario Thornton, 20, was arrested after turning himself in to authorities just before noon Thursday. He was placed in the Granville County Detention Center under $1 million bond.

Thornton was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and one count of injury to personal property.

The incident began as a noise complaint early Thursday morning. Deputies were called to a party near Highway 56, outside Creedmoor.

When the deputies arrived, a fight broke out. Deputy David Ward was shot in the arm.

Ward is in good condition at Duke Hospital.
