Tractor-Trailer Driver Charged In Fatal Johnston County Wreck

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed in a wreck involving a car and a tractor-trailer along Highway 70 in Johnston County Tuesday evening.

According to the Highway Patrol, Molly Louise Cook, 25, was traveling west on Highway 70 and made a left turn on to Swift Creek Road.

A tractor-trailer, driven Kevin Smith, 33, was traveling east when he officials said he ran a red light and struck Cook's car on its passenger side.

Both vehicles went off the road and down an embankment. Cook died at the scene.

Smith was charged with death by motor vehicle and failure to stop for a red light.
